Scandlines has introduced a new freight-only ferry, The Baltic Whale, on its busy Rødby–Puttgarden route, providing additional capacity and more options for freight operators transporting dangerous goods across the Baltic Sea.
The new vessel strengthens one of the key transport corridors between Scandinavia and continental Europe, offering departures every two hours and a crossing time of just 45 minutes. For many transport companies, the route can also reduce driving distances by more than 150 kilometres compared to alternative road-based options.
One of the most significant benefits is the increased availability for ADR cargo. The additional capacity allows Scandlines to accommodate dangerous goods classes that were previously subject to restrictions, helping hauliers plan their operations with greater flexibility and reliability.
As demand for efficient and compliant dangerous goods transport continues to grow, ferry services that provide dedicated ADR capacity play an increasingly important role in maintaining smooth supply chains across Northern Europe.
Through Eurogate Connect, transport companies can access a wide range of ferry services across Europe, including solutions for dangerous goods movements. Our team helps customers identify the most suitable routes and ferry operators based on cargo requirements, transit times and operational needs.
